When we were praying about God's vision for the Moms4Justice group God impressed upon my heart a picture of a group of women walking in a river. They were walking upstream, against the flow of the mighty water. Around their waists they had tied a rope which was connected to each other - this meant that if any of the women fell, she would not be dragged away by the current, but would be held firm by the other women.
As moms who are seeking ways to live out the values social justice and compassion in such a way that our kids get inspired to become kingdom builders, we need to support and encourage each other.
Choosing to instil values of standing up to injustice and greed is indeed walking upstream. Finding ways to teach our children to show practical love and compassion to the poor and acceptance to those who are different is also walking upstream.
Getting our children to see the ultimate benefits of living simply in a world of massive materialism is again walking upstream.
